Rizoma began as a research lab exploring cognitive architectures. During development, we needed infrastructure that was secure, auditable, and fully under our control. We built it. That infrastructure became our Mesh product line.
This is not a story of pivoting from research to products. It is a story of research producing infrastructure as a natural output — and that infrastructure being valuable to others who share the same requirements for sovereignty and trust.
The problem
Infrastructure we could trust.
When we started building cognitive architectures, we needed networking, storage, identity, and deployment infrastructure that met one standard: nothing leaves our control. Every existing solution had a fatal trade-off — convenience over sovereignty, speed over auditability, vendor lock-in over independence.
We could not find a single platform that gave us private networking, secure access, identity-aware policy, operational audit, and deployment automation — all without depending on a third-party cloud or a commercial license that could be revoked.
The output
Infrastructure as a natural output of research.
We did not plan to build a product line. We planned to run experiments. But every experiment required networking, storage, identity, and compute — and we refused to build those on rented infrastructure.
So we built our own: a private mesh network, a routing gateway, a Git forge, a password manager, an S3-compatible object store, a hosting control plane, and a CMS. Each solved a concrete operational need of the lab. Each was built to the same standard: private by default, governed by policy, auditable by design.
Over time, these tools matured. They ran our infrastructure, protected our data, and enabled our research. Other teams facing the same sovereignty requirements asked to use them. That is when we understood: what we built for ourselves was valuable to others.
Why release
From lab to ecosystem.
Releasing Rizoma as a product line was not a monetisation decision first. It was a structural decision: by making the infrastructure available to others, we ensure its continued development, security auditing, and real-world testing beyond our own lab environment.
Revenue from the ecosystem directly funds lab research. Every deployment of Rizoma contributes to the sustainability of Rizoma Lab and its mission to advance cognitive AI and sovereign infrastructure.

We are building Rizoma to be the default infrastructure layer for organisations that require digital sovereignty. Every product, every integration, every decision serves that single goal.
